*Note. The metric system is used exclusively in both powerlifting and weightlifting for all lift attempts and records.

Calibrated competition steel plates for powerlifting and bumper plates for weightlifting feature the same weight and colour scheme from 25kg down to 2.5kg.

However, the change plates, from 2kg down to 250g, differ slightly between the two disciplines, as weightlifting requires a 1kg increase to set a new record, while powerlifting only requires a 0.5kg/500g increase. The differences in the change plate's weight and colour between the two disciplines are:

Weightlifting: 2kg: blue, 1.5kg: yellow, 1kg: green, 0.5kg: white. This change plate colour scheme mimics the heavier weights that are 10x their face value.

Powerlifting: 1.25kg, 0.5kg and 0.25kg are all chromed (but, by rule, can be of any colour).

If you try to load a weight that does not conform to weightlifting or powerlifting record standards you will be given a "remainder" or leftover weight for each side of the bar.

For example, with Weightlifting selected as your discipline and 103kg entered as your total weight, you will be shown that you need 25kg x1, 10kg x1, 2.5kg x1 and 1.5kg x1 on each side of the bar.

But if you then entered a total weight of 103.5kg, since this is not a permitted increment in weightlifting (must be either 103kg or 104kg), the plate list will show the remainder not loaded on the bar.

The "remainder" amount will also appear if you select Powerlifting as your discipline then enter a weight not compatible with powerlifting plate denominations.
